The Lost Patrol

The Lost Patrol is a quest that can be given by Paladin Danse or Lancer Captain Kells after completing Call to Arms but before triggering Shadow of Steel. Alternatively, the quest can be activated by finding one of the distress signals from the recon team members while exploring.

The objective of this quest is to trace the sources of three distress signals and find out what happened to the recon team. Each signal leads to the corpse of a Brotherhood soldier, who has a holotape that reveals some information about their mission and fate. The locations are as follows:

  • Knight Varham's Battlefield holotape is located in a ruined house north of Relay tower 0MC-810, south of Med-Tek Research and east of West Everett Estates.

  • Knight Astlin can be found behind a table in the recruitment office inside the National Guard training yard.

  • Scribe Faris is found at the Revere satellite array. He is in a metal and wood structure above the ground connected to the southeast array tower. This area is inhabited by super mutants.

After playing all three holotapes, a quest marker will appear at Recon bunker Theta, where Paladin Brandis, the leader of the recon team, is hiding. The Sole Survivor can either convince him to return to the Brotherhood or leave him alone. If he returns, he will reward the Sole Survivor with the Survivor's Special, a unique laser rifle.

Duty or Dishonor

Duty or Dishonor is a quest that can be given by Lancer Captain Kells after completing The Lost Patrol and Shadow of Steel. The quest involves investigating a missing supply shipment from Boston Airport, where the Brotherhood has set up their base.

The Sole Survivor will need to talk to several people at the airport, including Knight Sergeant Gavil, Knight Lucia, Initiate Clarke and Proctor Quinlan. They will learn that Clarke is suspected of stealing the supplies and helping the ghouls at the nearby Fort Strong.

The Sole Survivor can either confront Clarke at Fort Strong or report him to Kells. If they confront him, they can either persuade him to stop his actions, kill him or join him in his cause. If they report him, Kells will order them to execute him. The outcome of this quest will affect the Sole Survivor's reputation with the Brotherhood and their companions.

A Loose End

A Loose End is a quest that can be given by Lancer Captain Kells after completing Duty or Dishonor and Liberty Reprimed. The quest involves dealing with Virgil, a former Institute scientist who turned himself into a super mutant and escaped to the Glowing Sea.

The Sole Survivor will need to travel to Virgil's cave and either kill him or spare him. If they spare him, they will need to bring him a serum that can reverse his mutation, which can be obtained from the Institute. If they kill him, they will need to report back to Kells.

The outcome of this quest will affect the Sole Survivor's relationship with Virgil, who can provide them with useful information and items if he survives. It will also affect their reputation with the Brotherhood and their companions.
